TRAN1006 - Case Studies in Maritime History

Building on the knowledge gained from the course Sources, Methods and Archives for Maritime Historians, this course provides students with the opportunity to examine how in practice historians have approached particular historical projects; their sources, methodology and presentation of conclusions. It aims to enhance and reinforce student understanding of the use of sources by maritime historians. Students will become aware of how maritime historians have used primary evidence to explore specific historical issues. By drawing on the practical experience of visiting scholars, students will gain understanding of the ways in which problems of historical research and writing in the maritime field might be addressed.
