Dissertation in Maritime History

The purpose of the dissertation is to develop and apply advanced research skills through the independent use of primary and secondary sources to investigate and report on an original historical question.

The overall aim is to bring together the knowledge and skills developed in the taught courses of the programme and, through the practical experience of advanced independent investigation under staff supervision, to train students in the formulation, execution and scholarly presentation of an advanced specific historical project. This consists of an original piece of written work of 20,000 words length.
