MBA Maritime Management
The MBA is the internationally recognised Masters degree that prepares aspiring managers for senior responsibility in today's business organisations. It combines current theory with the practical skills and techniques required for managing all aspects of an organisation, from functional specialisms such as marketing, operations and finance, through to whole-organisation strategic analysis and planning.
It explores the international aspects of business, the use of technology to break down barriers and construct solutions, the enlargement and creation of stakeholder value. It develops successful managerial skills in the areas of the evaluation and analysis of opportunity, or leadership and consultation, and of organisational effectiveness and change.
The MBA in Maritime Management is a joint development by Greenwich Maritime Institute and the University of Greenwich Business School. While retaining the themes and all-inclusiveness of a classic MBA, this programme, which has been developed in consultation with leading figures from the maritime industry, pursues and applies theory an practice with special reference to the maritime sector.
There are three parts to the programme. The first provides a solid foundation in various functional areas of maritime business, the systems and skills which link then, an environment in which organisations compete. The second integrates these themes through courses dealing with the elements of organisational strategy and the dynamics of organisational change. Students also study other subjects with particular relevance to Maritime Management which are economics of international shipping, public shipping law and maritime policy. Others relate to specialisms in knowledge management, marketing management and finance. Finally, programme members submit a 12,000 word supervised dissertation based upon an original research or consultancy project.
We place great importance on face-to-face teaching and believe that this is the best way to teach, motivate and encourage our students to improve their knowledge and develop their skills. The MBA Maritime Management programme provides ample opportunity for students to network with their colleagues who will all have worked within various areas of the maritime sector and also with representatives currently working within the industry.
