Personal Profile:

I am a registered general nurse with a background in acute medicine and critical care. I have nursed in a range of clinical settings both in the UK and overseas.

I have been in nurse education for over 20 years, teaching and managing both the pre registration and post registration curriculum during this time. Initially my specialist area was medical nursing however in recent years my area of expertise is health and social care education, particularly the accreditation of prior learning, mentoring and practice education.

My current role involves working with organisations external to the University who provide health and social care education, to advise and support them in claiming academic credit for their courses. This involves me in working with a variety of people in interesting and diverse areas of health and social care such as NHS Trusts, Department for Transport Mobility Forums, The Family Planning Association, Colleges offering Complementary Therapies and The Royal College of Nursing.

Accreditation of Prior Learning and Work-based Learning are my specific academic interests and I am course co-ordinator for the Portfolio Development Course which facilitates practitioners in identifying and producing evidence of their practice-based learning at all academic levels.

I also teach on the Mentor Development Course and am course co-ordinator for Managing the Practice Learning Environment on the Practice Educator route of the MA/PGD in Education.
