Overview of staff

The Department has 34 members of staff with a wide variety of clinical expertise including primary care, critical care, medical and surgical specialities. In addition clinical expertise is brought by our six Honorary Lecturers from our local NHS Trusts.

In total we have well in excess of 500 years experience of teaching and clinical practice in the acute and continuing care field, yet our clinical expertise is still growing.

We pride ourselves in the quality of our teaching and as a department we believe strongly in life long learning that will continue to development the expertise of our students and ourselves.

The work of the department

We devise and run a range of pre-registration and post qualifying courses that reflect the acute and continuing care clinical expertise in the department, whilst trying to reflect the changing boundaries between acute and primary care.

We provide educational and professional support to over a large number of clinical placement areas in both acute and community sectors via our link teachers. We believe our department provides a valuable bridge between the university and clinical practice and we aim to provide encouragement, advice and support to students, mentors and healthcare staff.

We also work closely with our local Trust and the Independent Sector to ensure courses reflect the current healthcare climate. In addition the Department works in conjunction with the research centre within the university in researching relevant clinical areas to help inspire and inform our teaching and clinical practice.

Future plan for the department

Encourage our staff to publicly share their knowledge and expertise.

Broaden the understanding and vision of health care in the 21st century. Encourage and inspire healthcare professionals of the future.
