The School of Health & Social Care was established in 1990 following the merger of the Dartford & Gravesham School of Nursing and Midwifery and Greenwich & Bexley School of Nursing and Midwifery. In 1993 the school joined the University of Greenwich and is now one of the largest in the University. The School of Health & Social Care is based on the Avery Hill Campus in Eltham and also has a significant presence at the Medway Campus at Chatham Maritime.
The School provides programmes for 900 pre-registration Nursing & Midwifery students. There are also opportunities for Continuing Professional Development for Registered Nurses and Midwives which may lead to Degrees in Clinical Practice, Mental Health Work or Professional Practice, or Masters Degrees in Research or Professional Practice and also PhD studies. We also offer degrees in Health, Public Health, Social Work and Social Care. A pre-registration nursing programme is offered jointly with Canterbury Christchurch University at the Medway Campus together with a Post Graduate Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy which commenced in 2007.
The Department of Psychology and Counselling in the School offers degrees in Psychology and Psychology and Counselling accredited by the British Psychological Society and also a Masters Degrees in Therapeutic Counselling accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
The School has also developed a number of Foundation degrees in conjunction with our Associate Colleges and outside agencies including the London Ambulance Service.
In 2011 we will launch an exciting new programme, BSc Hons Paramedic Science, which will run at Medway Campus in partnership with NHS South East Coast Ambulance Service.
