The Language Centre
The Language Centre is a multimedia resource centre, currently covering Italian, Spanish, French, German and English as a Foreign Language.
Students studying languages in one of our programmes will use the Centre to work on their portfolios. It also works as a self-access Language Centre, where students can come to study languages independently, making use of the Language Centre facilities and materials.
The Language Centre provides a welcoming and friendly environment in which to learn a language, and is equipped with a wide range of specialist equipment and materials, and has staff who are experienced in language learning who are ready to help you
A Virtual Language Centre Project has been approved in order to develop and extend our existing language learning and teaching resources on the Web.
Location
The Language Centre is located in the West Wing of the Grade II listed Dreadnought Library Building, which has been fully restored, modernised and fully equipped for 21st century learning.

Advisory Service
The Language Centre is supervised by a team of Language Advisors and Supervisors who are available on the Language Centre Help Desk during opening times.
The Language Centre Advisors are a team of linguists and native language experts who are on hand in the Language Centre to:
- help students familiarise themselves with the self-access materials;
- advise on which resources to use and how to use them effectively for language learning;
- provide support for students to work autonomously;
- provide IT support for language learning;
- deal with specific language problems;
- advise on students' Language Portfolio work;
At the beginning of each semester, the Language Centre provides a timetable for the advisors/assistants in each Language (English as a foreign language, French, Italian, German and Spanish), so that students have access to specific support in the language of their choice.
Please contact the Language Centre should you need to make an appointment with the specific language advisor/assistant.
