Bob is a graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London with a BA (Combined Hons.) in French and German. He has an RSA Diploma in TEFL, an MA in TESOL from the Institute of Education and is currently pursuing a PhD, also at the Institute of Education. Bob has many years’ experience as a teacher and teacher-trainer in the UK and Japan and has experience of working in the travel industry. He is currently programme leader for the International Pre-Master’s Programme and also teaches on the International Foundation Programme.

Research Interests

His research interests are teacher explanations: the language used by teachers and learners to mediate language-learning and teaching in the second language classroom.  In particular, he is interested in investigating classroom discourse from a sociocultural or cultural-historical activity theoretical perspective.
