Writing
The University of Greenwich offers a rich choice of writing courses available to students, and dedicated writing programmes at both undergraduate (BA Creative Writing and BA Media Writing) and postgraduate level (MA Creative Writing).
Our writing programmes enable you to maximise your potential and to scrutinise, respond to and reflect contemporary developments and shifts in the disciplines of imaginative writing, journalism and media writing.
You’ll be taught by a team of practitioners who are specialists in journalism, screenwriting, playwriting, performance writing, poetry and prose; in addition you will have the opportunity to be taught by top flight professionals who act as visiting faculty, including publishers, prize-winning novelists and journalists from the Guardian and the Independent. Each degree enjoys close partnerships with industries and organisations through assessed placements and targeted masterclasses.
Our graduates have gone on to a variety of careers in the creative industries, including playwriting: two of our graduates have had plays staged at the Royal Court and Soho Theatre; journalism: graduates from our courses have gone on to write for The Independent, The Times, Dazed and Confused, Vice magazine and The Voice; work for Sky Sports, MTV, Endemol; and have joined flourishing creative and PR agency start-ups.
In addition, students are invited to make contributions to respected in-house publications such as Brand Literary Magazine; the student-led current affairs magazine, the Crow’s Nest and scheduled readings, open mic nights and performances in the Edinburgh Rooms and Stephen Lawrence Gallery. Students are encouraged and supported in their active participation in affiliated literary, screenwriting and journalism events held at the University and more widely around the capital.
