This programme is an advanced taught/research degree which focuses on the interfaces among theory, political philsophy, new media, visual-acoustic culture and the fine arts.
The programmes enable visual/sound arts to be intensively studied in combination with a critical/theoretical as well as practical arts component. Students have the option of an independent 'practical arts' research project leading to their dissertation. Also, students may be permitted to take a course outside the university (e.g. with a university or cultural arts/new media institute within the EU).
In our Department of Creative, Critical and Communication Studies, the student will have additional access to courses in the field sof visual and acoustic culture: moving image, radio, digital arts, art criticism, net-art, creative writing, e-gaming, philosophy of media and its relation to the body, contemporary new (and old) media technologies, production and representation of space, music, performance, architecture and design.

The MA programme comprises three core courses and one option course for the taught portion of the programme. A research dissertation is also required , which can either be completed in 'traditional' form (i.e. 15,000 words) or as a part-practice-based and written (8,000-10,000 words and practice-based research arts project).
