The Research Methods Seminar (Low Fidelities) is a Core course, established so as to allow you to inhabit the creative technologies/media arts without loosing sight of the theoretical/practical nexus involved in your own artistic/scholarly researches. Here the seminar itself will become an experimental observatory/laboratory of critique, journeying and production.
Aims of the course:
-
To introduce you to the complex set of methodologies, epistemologies and possibilities of working in new (and old) media culture(s) as informed by arts practice and the philosophic economies these practises assume.
-
To provide the tools for collaborative as well as individual research methods as related to the contemporary and current theory/philosophy debates around aesthetics, ethics, art history, criticism, literature, communication technologies, architecture, montage, digital arts, radio, broadband, net-archiving/ web-based gaming, computing mathematics, and the creative industries as related to visual/acoustic culture.
-
To give the you a long-term framework(s) and general guidance/mentoring for your future research work in terms of the Programme, your research Dissertation, and arts project (should they opt to do one) in partial fulfilment of the MA in Media Arts Philosophy and its Practice.
