Tuesday, 29th January: Finding your Business Model (Level 1)
A sustainable business model is one of the most important first steps in setting up a creative business. In this session we will look at researching your creative idea and how to find your Unique Selling Point. We will also examine different routes to generating income, revenue and profit and come away with an understanding of the difference between a good idea and a good idea with an effective business model.
Wednesday, 6th February: Perfect Planning (General)
In this session we will look at the wider creative economy globally and in the UK and position your creative business within the sector. We will take first steps towards identifying your core values and the key drivers that motivate you and your work, and to help you with your strategic planning. It will take you through a vital health check exercise and develop a framework for redefining your focus, setting out your goals and developing an action plan to take your business to the next level.
Tuesday, 12th February: Strategies for Growth (Level 2)
Growth in a creative business can mean different things to different people. In this session we will examine the risks and rewards of growing your business and look at strategies for growth. You will also gain an understanding of the components of a flexible business and test how robust your business is to risk. This intensive session will give you the space and tools to re-examine the direction of your creative business and set you on a path to success.
Wednesday, 20th February: Management and Leadership (Level 2)
As a growing business you will need to start thinking about managing and leading others. In this session we will look at how to develop your management and leadership skills and examine ways of building a strong and loyal team. We will also assess the implications of employing staff and understand the principles of people management including a review of the relevant legislation.
Tuesday, 26th February: Creative Communication (General)
How you communicate with the outside world says a lot about your business. Branding is more than a company logo on a business card; it should incorporate everything that you do. Further, marketing is an essential part of any successful creative business. In this session we will review your brand values and marketing strategy with a view to expanding your client base.
Tuesday, 5th March: Managing Money (General)
As your business develops, issues around money management and financial planning become more important. In this session we will develop a range of tools to plan financially including budgeting, cash flow and management accounts. We will also look at a range of tax and legal issues as they relate to your current and future business including tax and national insurance for employees.
Wednesday, 5th March: Working Smarter not Harder (General)
Developing your creative business does not mean that you have to work harder if you work smarter. In this session you will gain an understanding of the importance of working ‘on’ your business not just ‘in’ your business while at the same time understanding the importance of project planning and reviewing. We will also review and develop a range of strategies for working smarter in your business including time management, problem solving and trouble-shooting and negotiating skills.
Tuesday, 11th March: Sustainable Investment and Funding (General)
At all stages in your creative business, the sustainability of investment and/or funding is crucial. In this session we will examine the funding landscape, both public and private, in the UK from the angle of sustainability. We will also look at techniques for pitching successfully to funders/investors.
Levels:
Level 1 is suitable for pre-startup and startup creative businesses.
Level 2 is suitable for existing creative businesses.
General level is suitable for both startup and existing businesses.
Times: 6.30pm – 9pm.
