Politics

Politics has been taught at Greenwich for nearly half a century. It ran as a Single Honours programme for many years at the Woolwich campus but relocated to the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich in 2001.
The BA Politics degree offers a very good general education in Political Studies by covering the five main strands. Our staff offer a range of courses within the areas of International relations, British Politics, Comparative Politics; Political Theory; and Politics and the Media. And because Politics is an activity too we have fostered the development of Parliamentary placements for a limited number of our final year students who work in an MP’s private office at Westminster. Reflecting critically on this experience forms a part of the assessment for those students who are selected for placements. A report on this scheme can be found on the Sociology, Anthropology and Politics Subject Centre website.
Our students also engage with extra curricular activities. Last year some of the year two students successfully applied for funding to run a workshop at the C-SAP Conference – New Contexts in Learning and Teaching: International Perspectives’ It was called ‘British Universities Undergraduate Political Society: An Initial Step’. For further details see the CBPS Politics Society home page.
We are now offering an MA in International Politics which builds upon our existing provision and extends the international dimension.
The Politics Research Group is coordinated by Dr Mary Farrell and focuses on a diverse range of themes with partcular interest in the areas of british Politics, International Politics of the EU and Regionalism and Global Governance.
