Alessandro attended the University of Florence where he received a Dott. In Lettere degree in History and Philosophy. He, then attended the University of Greenwich where he received an MSC in Educational Management and a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition. Alessandro is a researcher in the areas of Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Greenwich, Department of Languages and International Studies.
He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in applied linguistics, second language acquisition and second language instruction.

Research Profile

Alessandro Benati is Director of Research and Enterprise in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Greenwich, UK.

He is an academic scholar in the area of second language acquisition theories and second language teaching. His research focuses on how L2 language learners process incoming linguistic information at input level. Alessandro has published over twelve books in the area of second language acquisition and language instruction, four textbooks, twenty journal articles and book chapters. He is a visiting professor in many overseas institutions and has given invited and plenary conference talks in Australia, USA, China, Greece, Italy, Japan, Turkey and in many universities in the UK. He is regular reviewer of established international journals such as Language Teaching Research, Language Learning and Language Teaching and he is in the editorial board of a series of Academic Journals and Applied Linguistics Book Series in the UK and in Europe.
