PART A: INTERLANGUAGE PRAGMATICS
This part of the course is intended to introduce students to Interlanguage Pragmatics.  This is the area of Second Language Acquisition Research which focuses on the learning and teaching of second language communication skills. Lectures will examine the difficulties that language learners face while communicating in the second language and how they can be overcome through second language instruction. This part of the course will, therefore, provide practical advice on which aspects of pragmatics can be taught and which methods have proven effective.

It covers all the main areas of sociolinguistics, including key concepts in sociolinguistics and the interaction of language with social class, ethnic group, sex, and context amongst others. This part of the course includes both a theoretical and a practical component.
