Italian

Florence

The Italian team comprises two linguists whose research and teaching interests range from Applied Linguistics, and Second Language Acquisition to Italian studies.

One of the central components in the study of Italian is the acquisition of competence in the target language. The study of languages involves the acquisition of practical competence in the use of the target language. It involves and focuses on the development of the skills of reception (listening and reading) and the skills of production (speaking and writing). The study of languages will require interaction with native speakers and access to advanced educational technology.

The acquisition of competence in a foreign language should enhance the ability of students to develop their intercultural awareness and understanding of a different culture, community and society.

The study of Italian will involve three key components:

a) the ability to use the target language for purpose of understanding, expression and communication;
b) the ability to acquire the explicit knowledge of the language;
c) the ability to develop cultural and intercultural awareness and understanding of the community and society.
