Sociology

Sociology is the study of the relations between individuals, groups, communities and nations. It looks at the structures and institutions within society and examines how individuals are formed through these structures and how they, in turn, affect society. Sociology at the University of Greenwich provides a broad foundation in social thought and critique while also allowing for focused research in areas of special interest. Students are able to pursue their own interests through a diversity of courses and are encouraged to develop high-level research skills through the completion of a research project in the final year or by strengthening their CV with an assessed work placement.
How does our students’ experience compare with those at other universities?
In last year’s National Student Survey our students rated us 3rd out of 86 for satisfaction with teaching and 13th out of 86 for General Satisfaction (from the Guardian 2011 League Table). This table places us above the many of the most prestigious universities in terms of student satisfaction. Read more about what our students say about sociology at Greenwich here.
