Research Degrees at NRI
NRI is a specialised Institute and School of the University of Greenwich at Medway, in the county of Kent, England. The University of Greenwich is a multi-campus University in south-east London and Kent, serving higher education needs both locally and nationally within the UK, and regionally in the European Union, and reaching out to provide research, consultancy and education services worldwide, especially through the long-established international activities of NRI in the developing world on the sustainable management of natural and human resources.
NRI's reputation is founded on a long history of expertise in the development of natural resources, and the Institute - and its predecessors - is known world-wide for this, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. Although a major component of NRI's work in the past has been concerned with developing countries and those with economies in transition, its expertise has increasingly proved to be of growing relevance to the development and management of natural resources in industrialized countries.
Research Opportunities at NRI
The Natural Resources Institute currently has some 90 research students, undertaking MSc by Research, MPhil and PhD degrees. Our students are pursuing their research in both full and part-time modes.
A research degree involves training in research methods and methodology and the individual execution of a piece of supervised research. It is common for students registered with NRI to do part of their research in developing countries. A research degree involves the systematic high-level study of a problem or topic and the presentation of the results in the form of a written thesis that may be supported by work in other than written form. The candidate is examined orally on the work submitted. Post-graduate studies at the Natural Resources Institute are carried out in the context of established research groups clustered together to maximise their collaborative potential.

Facilities
The Natural Resources Institute is situated at the Medway campus of the University of Greenwich. It has up-to-date research facilities for a wide range of research disciplines and also benefits from access to the facilities of the Medway School of Science which is based on the same campus.
The Drill Hall library at Medway has been developed into a 'modern library' integrating access to library books, periodicals, electronic information services, media workshops, and pc networks for student use.
