Biography

Paula Carey graduated with a BSc in Geology (Hons) from the University of St Andrews and a PhD from the University of Keele on the Geology of the Corrieyairack Pass, Inverness-shire. She was a Post-doc at the University of Liverpool before joining City of London Polytechnic Geology Dept. in 1985 as a junior lecturer. This post has gradually metamorphosed into her current position of Principal Lecturer in Environmental Science and Geography within the School of Science.

Areas of expertise

Originally a hard rock structural and metamorphic field geologist, Paula’s area of expertise has developed through engineering geology and geomaterials into her current area of work in contaminated land remediation and waste management. As co-director of the Centre for Contaminated Land Remediation, Paula works closely with Dr Colin Hills in the use of cement stabilisation and solidification of soils and waste and as co-founders of Carbon8 Systems Limited a company which uses waste carbon dioxide to treat Industrial wastes and contaminated soils in a process known as Accelerated Carbonation to produce materials for the construction industry.
