Accommodation
We recognise that accommodation - where you live and in what type of housing - plays an important part in student life; for some students it is integral to their success on a course of study. The university, therefore, has always aimed to provide the best possible range and standard of accommodation to meet the needs of our students.
We have achieved this by:
- developing and improving our halls of residence - changing their makeup by listening to residents and responding to student opinion;
- providing, as far as we are able, the highest standards of service through recruiting, training and investing in our accommodation staff;
- working to improve the quality and standard of all the services we either supply or contract.
The university provides approximately 2,300 places in halls of residence on or near to the main campuses. Most rooms are single study-bedrooms in self-catering flats with either shared or en-suite bathroom facilities, although the university also offers a limited number of self-contained studio flats in one of its halls near the Maritime Greenwich Campus.
The majority of rooms in halls are made available to new students - 1st year and direct entry students - arriving in September for the entire academic session. Applications are welcome at any time in advance of the session but offers of accommodation will be dependent upon student status.
Full-time enrolled students of the university can, of course, apply for accommodation in halls at any time during their course of study. Vacancies do occur and rooms in hall can be gained - subject to availability.
A proportion of rooms are made available in each academic session to continuing students who wish to apply for places in advance - usually in February before the September start of a new academic session.
