Undergraduate ambassadors scheme

A number of mathematics programmes offered by the university take part in the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme (UAS). This rewards final year mathematics undergraduates with programme credit for participating in projects in which they work as teaching assistants and act as role models in local schools.

The undergraduates gain valuable transferable skills through first-hand experience of mathematics in an educational setting. At the same time, the scheme provides teachers with knowledgeable and enthusiastic assistants who offer practical help and engage pupils in mathematics.

UAS helps develop a range of key transferable skills in students, including confidence in communicating their subject, strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and an understanding of how to address the needs of individuals. In addition, students learn to devise and develop mathematical projects and teaching methods appropriate to the age group they are working with. The scheme also offers an early taste of teaching for undergraduates interested in pursuing teaching as a career.

Participation in the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme is indicated on the relevant entries in the Subject A to Z.
