Quantity surveyors are employed in the construction industry to provide advice and guidance on many diverse areas. This course will offer students the opportunity to develop and apply knowledge and skills in a practical context at the appropriate level.
This course further develops the skills acquired in level 4 of the programme and reflects on the skills developed in the other level 5 courses.

Learning outcomes

On completing this course successfully you will be able to:
• Explore the role of the Quantity Surveyor
• Undertake practical aspects of the role
• Produce documentation for a variety of tasks
• Analyse client briefs and interpret clients’ requirements

Indicative content

Small scale projects covering a variety of QS tasks such as the estimating, value management and engineering through to preparation of tender documentation and reporting on tender returns, amending and drafting contract clauses, chairing of progress meetings and preparation of preliminaries, preparation of valuations and financial reports, variations and final accounts.

Teaching and learning activity

The course will be delivered through seminars, discussions and workshops related to the course with emphasis on investigations, problem solving and group working.
