The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology is a department within the School of Engineering at The University of Greenwich, Medway, Kent and has specialised in solving materials handling problems since 1973. The Centre began its existence researching problems associated with pneumatic conveying of powders and granular solid material in pipelines and has since expanded its areas of interest to include hopper and silo design, powder characterisation, wear of plants and components, handling and storage of particulates and instrumentation and control of bulk solids handling systems, to name but a few.
Our mission is to help industry to get it's powders and bulk materials to behave in the way they need them to!
Our extensive test facilities are housed in over 450m2 of floor space. These facilities are continuously being updated to meet research and test requirements of industrial clients.
Our industrial consulting experts have many years experience of problem solving and are backed by a large team of researchers, engaged in pushing back the boundaries of bulk solids characterisation.
Current research programmes that are underway are listed on this site. The Wolfson Centre is continually improving the understanding of the behaviour of particulates in handling and storage systems and can offer design, research and other consultancy services (including Expert Witness) to industry, as well as a range of short courses either at the centre or at the plant. Many clients value our complete independence from equipment suppliers - leaving us free to recommend equipment purely on the basis of fitness for purpose and not because of any vested interest.
The Wolfson Centre has vast experience of handling a wide range of industrial bulk materials. Large scale handling operations can be planned and optimised after a good knowledge of the material's properties has been gained.
