Dr Jonathan AJ WilsonA Greenwich academic has been ranked among the 50 most influential figures in the Islamic Economy in 2015.

Dr Jonathan A.J. Wilson, Programme Leader for the Masters degrees in Marketing at the Business School, features in the list published by Islamica 500, a business guide detailing the world's most prominent and influential personalities in the Islamic world and economy.

Islamica made the announcement ahead of its gala event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which was scheduled to coincide with the 11th World Islamic Economic Forum, also being held in the city.

Dr Wilson says: "This is a great honour, both for myself and Greenwich. Research by Thomson Reuters and DinarStandard shows that in the Islamic economy, also known as the Halal economy, global assets of Islamic banks exceed $1.3 trillion, and are set to double by 2020.

"Also, while 1.7 billion Muslim consumers' spending worldwide on food and lifestyle has reached US$1.8 trillion in 2014 and is projected to reach $2.6 trillion in 2020, these same products and services are also generally consumed by wider communities, which increases figures even further."

Published annually, the Islamica 500 records the achievements of those Muslim and non-Muslim men and women who build up and pioneer the Islamic economy and the Halal industry. The Islamica 500 features people from different sectors, markets and nationalities, reflecting the truly global nature of the Islamic economy.
