Talented students from lower-income backgrounds can progress to Master's level studies thanks to a £400,000 investment by the University of Greenwich.

The university's Fast Forward Scholarships are designed to help high-performing students to pursue new qualifications, and ultimately to embark on rewarding graduate careers.

Eighty students, including those from the UK or from EU countries, will be able to benefit in the next academic year. Each scholarship entitles a student to £5,000, which can be taken either as a discount from the normal fee, or as a cash bursary.

Jon Sibson, Pro-Vice Chancellor for the university's Business School, says Greenwich is committed to investing in its own students. "The Fast Forward Scholarships are an annual scheme and we know they play an important part in the lives of some of our ambitious and talented graduates," he says.

"The funding will help them to continue to achieve their goals, both in terms of further study at university, and in embarking on their chosen career paths. I'm proud that the scholarships continue Greenwich's mission of investing in our students' futures."

To qualify, students must be on course to achieve a First or Upper Second degree, and have a total household income of less than £43,000.

In addition, students aged under 60 on 1 September 2017, and meeting residence requirements, are eligible for a £10,000 Postgraduate Loan from Student Finance England.

Applications are now open, and students are welcome to apply from across the university's four faculties – which include Architecture, Computing & Humanities; Business; Education & Health; and Engineering & Science. The scheme is for those who wish to undertake either full or part-time study.
