Lawrie SanchezTen Lessons in Management is the subject of a free public seminar being given by a former football star at the University of Greenwich in November.

Lawrie Sanchez, a hugely successful domestic and international player and manager, will be delivering the next Big Picture seminar, explaining why "management is management even when in the 'sexiest' of industries".

Lawrie started his career in 1977, joining Reading as a schoolboy before being signed by Wimbledon, where he truly made his name. After just 18 months with the club, Lawrie scored the winning goal which promoted the 'Crazy Gang' into Division 1. Just two years later, he famously scored the only goal in the 1988 FA Cup Final against Liverpool, securing one of the greatest Cup Final upsets of all time.

Lawrie has a wealth of management experience. After leaving the playing field he embarked on the next stage of his career, managing Wycombe Wanderers, and his management experience lasted almost 15 years. He adds: "I have represented both players and managers on their respective management committees, helping to protect their rights within the game."

Lawrie brings this experience to the university on Wednesday 15 November at the Greenwich Campus, in the King William Building, room KW303. Entry is free and on a first come, first served basis; early arrival is recommended.

Run by the university's Business School, the Big Picture seminars give high-profile speakers a chance to share their expert insights with staff, students and the public. Subjects include entrepreneurship, leadership and management, the economy and the media.
