Careers and employability Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Our programmes are designed in close collaboration with industry and ensure we provide the skills employers really want.

Placements give penultimate-year undergraduate students the opportunity to spend a year in industry. This allows students to work on real life scenarios, witness the end results and to hone the practical skills learnt at university.

The department has a dedicated Employability and Placement Office for undergraduate students, which is dedicated to making contacts with industry and helping students find placements. Our team provides assistance from the initial point of contact with a potential employer, through to completion of placement. Our network of national and international employers supports the three-way relationship between the student, the employer and the department.

We encourage all students to complete a sandwich degree placement as vocational experience gives them valuable experience and is highly regarded by potential employers. An increasing number of students take up sandwich degrees.

Our students have gained practical experience at companies including: American Express, Cancer Research UK, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Microsoft, Walt Disney (Buena Vista Games) and Thomson Reuters.

Students also have the opportunity to gain valuable experience through the GWizards initiative through which we provide talented University of Greenwich students to help businesses and other organisations solve problems.
