FAQ - clients

Hopefully, you will find the answers to any questions you may have about GWizards using the links on the left hand side of this page. However, if our FAQs sections do not address the concerns or queries that you have, please do not hesitate to email us at gwizards@gre.ac.uk.

I am a charity/not-for-profit/social enterprise organisation, can I get involved with GWizards?

Yes. We primarily work with your type of organisation to provide very low cost (or in many cases, no cost) solutions to you business problems. Our developments proceed on a 'best endeavour' basis that provide you with business solutions that you would not otherwise be able to afford, and enable our students/recent graduates to gain relevant, real-world experience.

I am a commercial organisation, can I get involved with GWizards?

Yes. However, we are governed by the terms of the Minimum Wage Act. Therefore, our GWizards students may undertake unpaid 'proof of concept' or prototype developments/investigations for commercial organisations as part of a taught course: this is usually as part of a Masters Degree Project, a Final Year Undergraduate Project or part of the Final Year course 'Industry Work Practice'. Such developments will be supervised by both the academic supervisor and GWizards supervisor, with the completion of the course assessment requirements being the primary objective.

How much will it cost me?

We aim to provide very low cost (or in some cases, no cost) solutions to the organisations we support. However, where possible, we do expect the travelling expenses of our GWizards to be reimbursed (after all, they are students/recent graduates and don't have great financial resources at their disposal). In some cases, we may also need to charge the cost of the use of equipment or other media, but this will be kept to a minimum and discussed with you in advance.

What do you mean by a 'best endeavour' project?

Our GWizards students work to professional standards and are closely supervised by both their academic supervisor and their GWizards supervisor. However, our GWizards are 'in training' and are not undertaking the development as part of a commercial, paid contract. Therefore, whilst we strive for a professional end-delivery within a given timeframe, this is not always possible, and our clients are required to acknowledge this before the project commences.

What support will GWizards staff give to the project?

Our GWizards are given technical and professional support whilst undertaking projects for our clients. Our GWizards volunteers work closely with their GWizards supervisor - who is a technically experienced developer. In addition to this, our GWizards students undertaking a project as part of a taught course - a Final year/Masters project, for example - will also have the support of their academic supervisor.

How can I discuss my requirements with GWizards?

You can get in touch with us at GWizards@gre.ac.uk or via the Contact us page of this website. Provide us with an outline of your business requirements and one of our GWizards staff will contact you to discuss your needs in further detail.
