We’ve been awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)

The TEF is a new scheme for rating excellence in teaching and in the results published today we have been awarded Silver, which confirms our teaching is of a high quality.

An independent TEF panel of experts assessed our teaching as "consistently exceeding rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education."

We're proud of this achievement, which Professor David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor said is a "truly superb endorsement" of our innovative and dynamic teaching and learning environment in which all of our students can flourish and excel.

Also identified as areas of excellence were:

  • How our courses and assessment practices are designed to ensure students make progress within their studies,
  • The knowledge, skills and understanding gained by students and which are highly valued by employers,
  • Our personalised approach to learning,
  • Our high quality physical and digital resources which enhance learning,
  • An institutional culture that rewards excellent teaching.

The metrics also indicate a high level of student satisfaction with teaching on my course, academic support and assessment and feedback.

Working with the Students' Union

Throughout this process we've worked with the Students' Union to ensure that your student voice was evident in our submission, which you can read on the TEF pages of our website, and we're proud of the strong partnership we have.  Learning of our Silver award Vivian Van Lent, VP Education said:

"We are happy and proud as a Students' Union to have worked in partnership with the University on the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) submission and were able to embed the student voice in this. We are very excited that as an institution we have been awarded the Silver Level, which shows clear recognition of the progress our students make. They are helped to acquire the right knowledge and skills, which are valued by employers and makes them qualified graduates, here at Greenwich."
