Executive MBA graduate shares how meeting the programme leader helped him decide to study at Greenwich.

So I currently work in the NHS as a Service Manager, in one of the local hospitals. With the MBA you are better able to manage staff, HR issues, and all the financial things. It marries them all together. It gives you a more complete picture and certainly a more well-rounded manager.

Also it has made me think about doing further study with the confidence gained by completing the MBA programme.

How did you find balancing work and university life?

I think that's probably one of the most difficult components, and I think that is the fundamental thing that you have to get right, if you are doing part-time, a work-study balance.

It's all possible, but you do have to get that right from the start, and make sure that you're honest with yourself, and that you definitely need to be committed.

You are supported in the right way by the lecturers and the support staff, but it is probably what I would say, personally, was the biggest commitment and challenge for myself.

Do you have advice for future MBA students?

My advice in saying what I said, you do have to be committed and it is very challenging, but it is really good fun. The group of people, even as a part-timer, you get to meet them, you build a rapport with not just your lecturers but your classmates, and it's actually a great way to reinvigorate the brain.

I also found that meeting with the programme leader before commencement of the degree was hugely influential and beneficial. The advice given and the opportunity to see what you will be in for during your studies gives you invaluable insight into what the Greenwich MBA is about.

Where does your drive and determination come from?

I think people who select to do an MBA, and certainly those who will complete it, I think are self-selecting type of individual. It is a challenging degree academically to complete but the more importantly it is more about how you maintain your enthusiasm and drive over the MBA programme.

Everyone joining the MBA programme will have their own motivation, reasons and doubts, but I believe that anyone is capable of completing the degree if you genuinely make the effort. Hey, I am testament to that!
