Shonte gives us a snapshot of her first year on the Medway Campus.

I decided to study environmental sciences at the Medway Campus because of the Natural Resources Institute (NRI). The campus has got good facilities that I knew I would require during my studies. Also, I am close to London but I get to experience a new area. One thing I would not have had the opportunity to do living elsewhere is visiting the Chatham Naval Base and Memorial site.

The best thing about studying at this campus is the Drill Hall Library. It's the longest in Europe, with an incredible amount of resources. The library also has a café to grab a quick snack, and a very social area.

When I arrived, I joined the Student Sustainability Hub; they are a student society that aim to improve the carbon footprint of the student halls of residence. They hold competitions throughout the year, which I enjoy because it gets students together.

Since I've joined I've become involved with a lot of activities through the Employability and Careers Service's student JobShop: I work with the university marketing team two days a week, and I show students round on Open Days and campus tours. Having part time work allows me to get extra income, work experience and get to know new people.

My favourite thing to do in the area is to take walks down by the river and the Historic Dock Yard. These two sites are lovely to photograph. For a night out though, I like the campus bar Coopers, and Tap 'n' Tin.

If you had to describe my experience at the Medway Campus, I'd say it's a friendly place. It's close to London with a lot of green space, and free from London rush.
