Reminder: The deadline for completing appraisals is 30 September

TLDRoffon

The appraisal cycle is also important for our REF2021 Code of Practice. Therefore please ensure your appraisal is complete on time so that we can progress this work to schedule.

The deadline for completing appraisals is 30 September, and we require 100% of eligible appraisals to be finalised by this date.

The appraisal cycle is also important for our REF2021 Code of Practice

Our Code of Practice was approved by Research England, subject to two small clarifications, last month.  It details the university's approach to identifying staff with significant responsibility for research, identifying independent researches and selection of outputs for submission.

A number of key activities and meetings need to be completed in Term 1, which are dependent on the outcomes of the appraisal cycle, and includes informing the REF team of the likely scale and shape of the university's submission.

The appraisal cycle will help identify staff with significant responsibility for research, and consequently who will be submitted to REF2021.  The university's definition of significant responsibility for research are those staff who are on a Research Career Pathway and have a reasonable percentage allocation (greater than 20%) to carry out research through the balanced workload model (or equivalent in the case of the NRI) and are able to actively engage in independent research.
