Former teacher training students who studied in Avery Hill are being recognised by the University of Greenwich at a special ceremony this Autumn.

The university is encouraging people who qualified from Avery Hill College with a Certificate in Education or Batchelor of Education in the years up to, and including, 1986 to come forward as they may be eligible for an honorary degree.

Many of the college alumni have gone on to have long and illustrious careers in education, and many still live in and around London and the South East.

And now this ceremony will formally recognise former students' achievements.

One alumnus of the college, Alan Morland, is encouraging other college alumni to take part in the ceremony.

Alan who met his wife, Vivien, when they both studied in Avery Hill, said: "We would like to thank the University of Greenwich for providing this wonderful opportunity to recognise the tremendous contribution that thousands of Avery Hill College trained teachers have made to education.

"The award of honorary degrees for all past students, including some from as far back as 1946, is long overdue and fully deserved.  The ceremony will give us all the chance to celebrate not only the unique and exceptional quality of the training we received at Avery Hill College but also the partnerships and enduring life-long friendships we made there."

It is hoped that former students of all ages and from across the country will attend the ceremony which will take place in the beautiful setting of the Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich.

If you, or a relative, studied at the college, you can find out further information about the ceremony here.

If you can't attend this event, you can apply for a certificate to be sent to you by post.
