The University of Greenwich’s Loudspeaker Orchestra launches the first in its series of 2019-2020 electroacoustic music concerts celebrating the European community on Wednesday 16 October.

Delivering a programme of immersive acoustic experiences, the series will feature work by leading international artists and some of the university's sound design students. The events will take place at various locations in Greenwich, including St Alfege Church.

Speaking about the concerts, Dr Andrew Knight-Hill said: "We're excited to invite such distinguished guests from across Europe to share their music in the beautiful location of the St Alfege Church. This series reflects a range of different styles and approaches with both established and emerging artists – all presenting music of the very highest calibre."

Kicking off on 16 October, Simon Atkinson presents an evening of music inspired by the nocturnal, and on 6 November, the Paris-based Group de Recherches Musicales will give a concert featuring acousmatic music - a form of electroacoustic music composed for presentation using speakers.

World leading composer Annette Vande Gorne will perform multichannel acousmatic works on 9 November at the SOUND/IMAGE conference, which will be hosted by the university's School of Design, 9-10 November at 10 Stockwell Street.

The series will end the year on 4 December with a concert from Gerriet K. Sharma and Angela McArthur, who will present work composed for the IKO icosahedral loudspeaker.

Restarting on 28 January 2020, Explore Ensemble immerses instruments and audiences to perform rare modernist works, and Lydia Kavina will celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the invention of the Theremin with a centenary concert on 19 February.

On 18 March, the last event in the series will see artistic director Julien Guillamet give a diverse concert of electroacoustic and acousmatic works developed by composers and partners of the Montpellier-based Maison des Artes Sonores.
