Graduation ceremonies always make for a busy week on campus, here's a glimpse at some of the celebrations and details of our Honorary Awards.

Congratulations to all of our #GreGrads

In the Awards Ceremonies we recognised three outstanding women:

  • Ann Brightwell MBE, an alumna from the university's predecessor, Dartford College of Physical Education, who at 22 won an Olympic gold medal in the 800 metres at the 1964 games in Tokyo. In 1965 Ann received an MBE and forty years later was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame, which honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport of athletics. Ann received the honour of Honorary Bachelor of Education (HonDEd), which recognises her achievements.
  • Professor Jennifer Hargreaves who received the honour of Honorary Doctor of Education (HonDEd) which recognises the transformative nature of her research and academic work which has influenced policy, practice and the representation of women and girls in sport around the world.
  • Joanne Bosanquet MBE, the Deputy Chief Nurse for Public Health England, who received the degree of Honorary Doctor of the University (HonDUniv) in recognition of her distinction in the field of nursing and public health, and the inspiration she has been to students graduating from the nursing programmes.
