The new hardship fund is available from Monday 18 January. It is a one-off payment of £1,000 and is available to students who can demonstrate financial hardship and are in private rented accommodation. This is a limited fund and it will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.

A boost of £255,000 is available to help private renters studying at the University of Greenwich during the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Private Housing Bursary 2020-21

You will need to meet the following criteria to be considered for the above grant:

  • You are a fully registered student at the University of Greenwich.
  • You are up to date with your fee’s payments.
  • You are studying at one of our campuses (Greenwich / Avery Hill / Medway).
  • You pay your fees directly to the university.
  • You must be able to demonstrate private housing costs by providing either:
    • Rent arrears statement
    • Tenancy agreement
    • Housing contract
    • Evidence of any housing benefit or Universal credit awarded towards rent
  • You must provide 3 months bank statements for all accounts (if you are in relationship this will include your partners).
  • You must fully complete and return this budget planner
  • You must provide short statement outlining;
    • your housing situation, for example details about any additional costs due to the pandemic
    • unexpected changes in your financial position, for example loss of income
  • Any money awarded from the grant will be considered if a student applies to our student hardship fund.
  • Assessment will be carried out by comparing income and rental costs
  • Successful students will receive a one off payment of £1,000 paid directly into their bank account which can be updated on the portal.
