5-day Greenwich Summer of DANS (Data and Network Science) 2019

Greenwich Accelerated Development Programme (GADPro)

The programme consists in a mix of activities covering various topics on network and data science, from basics to advanced. We start the day with introductory and key concepts on the topic of the day (fundamental topics, i.e. network and data science, and applied topics in business analytics, social media and contagion) to make sure everyone is on the same page. Then we have known external guests (from academia and industry) that will talk about their research in a more advanced level, yet, accessible to every participant who attended the introductory session.

In the afternoon, you will work together with other participants in small teams (3 or 4, with different skills) under the supervision of senior researchers. The projects will be designed and developed by participants. You start with a dataset (provided by us) and design a research plan based on methods learnt in the morning sessions. This will be almost completely hands-on and we will closely follow each team to support and give advice. We will also talk about project management and collaboration. The goal is that you are able to design a collaborative research plan, make a few preliminary analysis and present them at the last day. We expect that participants keep interacting after the summer school and hopefully produce a more complete work for publication.

Finally, we will have labs (using python) where we cover morning topics from a practical perspective and in a structured way. For example, teaching how to implement certain measures or make certain analysis.
