Your career event questions answered
What happens at a university careers fair?
Our careers fairs give students the chance to network with national and international employers. They provide a relaxed environment where you can:
- Discuss graduate roles and placements
- Learn about companies' recruitment processes
- Check that you're developing the right work-related skills
How do I get the most out of a careers fair?
Make sure you're prepared:
- Attend a preparation workshop, receive a list of the employers attending and prioritise who you want to speak to
- Research the employers that you are interested in
- Introduce yourself and be prepared to give your elevator pitch
- Dress professionally as first impressions are important
- Make sure you've updated your CV and have copies to hand. If you need help, we offer CV support
Why should I attend a careers fair?
- Meet a wide range of employers in one place
- Find out about job opportunities
- Get tips on what recruiters are looking for
- Find out when they are hiring
- Discuss recruitment cycles, plans and practices
Our students have found careers fairs very beneficial, as it gave them the opportunity to have direct access to those who can offer jobs and placement opportunities. By attending careers fairs it gives you the opportunity to talk directly with representatives from the employer, which no other recruitment method offers.
When do careers fairs take place?
Autumn
We run Recruitment and Careers Fairs at the Greenwich Campus in October, and at the Medway Campus in November.
Greenwich Campus also hosts a Placement Fair in November for students seeking a placement or year in industry. Some smaller sector-specific fairs may take place across the academic year, depending on demand. We'll let you know about these in the weekly employability bulletins we send to your student email address.
Spring
We hold a Graduate Interviews Event for final-year undergraduates and recent graduates on both Greenwich and Medway Campuses.
This unique project provides our students and recent graduates with the opportunity to apply for real vacancies and to be interviewed by employers on campus. Employability support is available at every stage of the process, including CV checks and interview coaching sessions provided before the real interviews take place.
