Dr Vincent La Placa is a Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer for Public Health and Policy in the Department of Psychology, Social Work & Counselling at the University of Greenwich.

Vincent joined the university in 2010 as programme leader on BSc Health & Wellbeing, and lecturer on the BSc Hons Public Health programme; his courses include Concepts and Theories of Health; Behaviour Change in Public Health; Community Health Action and Engagement; Public Health and Wellbeing; and Health Economics and Policy.

He previously worked as a research consultant for the Department of Health (DH), where he managed the qualitative strand of the "Healthy Foundations (HF) Life-stage Segmentation Model": one of the largest pieces of qualitative research funded by DH. He also played a key role in assisting the HF team to provide training to healthcare professionals and planners in using the tools developed from the model and in developing health interventions. He has also worked as a consultant at the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) on a systematic review of methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

His main areas of interest is the impact of globalization on health and wellbeing, welfare states and public policy; social theories and epistemologies, particularly late modernity and capitalism, risk, and critical public health; research methods (quantitative and qualitative); the psychology and sociology of gender and sexuality; and health education/promotion and behaviour change.

Vincent has published scholarly articles in academic journals on a wide range of subjects, including the relationship between poverty and parenting outcomes, social tourism in organized capitalist societies; health segmentations and critical public health perspectives, and the social construction of wellbeing in late modern capitalism.

Vincent's main research interests are in the areas of public health, wellbeing policy and practice and the use of social and psychological theoretical perspectives and research methodologies in public health research.
