Subject knowledge enhancement courses Faculty of Education & Health

Pre-ITT Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) Courses

  • Have you been offered a place on a PGCE or School-Direct programme for September?
  • Is your confidence about your subject knowledge stopping you from applying for a PGCE Secondary programme?

To prepare you to teach in your specialist subject area we are offering Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) Courses in:

  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

We offer blended courses in science and mathematics for 8, 16 and 24 weeks.

The blended courses consists of a distance component where you are supported by a tutor and a 2 week face-to-face component that is held at the Avery Hill Campus, Mansion site, Eltham, London SE9 2PQ.

These Department for Education funded courses are intended for Home or EU students who have been offered a place on a teacher training programme. A bursary may also be available for the duration of your course.

To be eligible for the SKE course, you will need to be offered a place on an ITT programme and have an SKE as part of your conditions for your place.

This fantastic course offers you the opportunity to refresh your subject knowledge and prepare you for your teacher training programme. Participants have found it invaluable when they start the PGCE as we cover both subject knowledge, misconceptions and pedagogy as well as giving access to a wide range of teaching strategies and resources.

If you have any questions or would like to apply, please contact secondaryiteadmin@gre.ac.uk
