Marion Kemp is a Senior Lecturer of Mathematics in the Department of Secondary Education, LLTE and PE & Sport at the University of Greenwich.

Marion joined the University in 2003 with responsibility as Course Leader for the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary Mathematics Programme. She started her teaching career whilst on Voluntary Service Overseas in Sierra Leone. On return to the UK, Marion taught mathematics and science in mainstream secondary schools in London. She was second in Department of Mathematics in a large Comprehensive school before taking a career break to raise her three children. On return to work, she taught mathematics part-time for several years and then returned full-time as Head of Faculty of Mathematics and Business, before moving into training teachers.

Her teaching interests have always focused on making mathematics accessible to all, giving students confidence in their abilities and developing their understanding of the concepts involved. She is passionate that pupils have a "can do" attitude to the subject and has proven very successfully at achieving that, using a variety of ways to engage and challenge people, getting to know students as individuals and understanding the value of building confidence and self-esteem.

Marion has been fully involved with the Widening Participation agenda and is always willing to take part in Taster Days, GCSE revision days on Saturdays and going to schools and colleges to promote mathematics. She also takes the Fun Maths Roadshow out into both Primary and Secondary Schools.

Shehas been involved in the organisation and delivery of Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses both pre and post PGCE. The post qualified SKE teachers who wished to retrain to teach Mathematics was very successful, and she is involved with supporting Longfield Academy who is now running this locally.
Marion has worked in partnership with Northfleet Technology College, on an exciting challenge delivering the Computer Science PGCE. She feels that the lead practitioner from Northfleet can offer students a very relevant, interesting and challenging programme.

She feels very strongly about producing a high quality of mathematics teachers and this is reflected in her enthusiasm and support for the PGCE programmes in general, with specific involvement in Computer Science and Mathematics. She has developed strong partnerships with schools and students on Outreach placements, doing Fun Maths Roadshows, and organising and teaching on revision sessions in schools.
