Are you interested in qualifying to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector?

The School of Education and Training is running a one week intensive programme that leads towards PGCE/PCE LLS (PTLLS) accreditation.

What is it about?

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is designed to introduce trainee teachers to the lifelong learning sector, providing a threshold licence to teach and opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in planning and enabling learning in the sector so that they are able to provide high quality teaching that will enable the development and progression of their learners.

You will study one course (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) in which you will;

  • Understand your own role, responsibilities and boundaries in relation to teaching;
  • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in your specialist area;
  • Demonstrate session planning skills;
  • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners;
  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

Each day will begin at 10am and finish at 4pm with an hour for lunch. Activities will include individual tasks, paired and small group work with time for reflection at the end of each day.

Day 1 - Programme Introduction and The Characteristics of an Effective Teacher.

Day 2 - Who are my learners? Activities for Inclusive learning.

Day 3 - Effective teaching and learning strategies for a subject specialism.

Day 4 - Scheme of Work and Lesson Planning.

Day 5 - Assessment methods and record keeping. Micro-teaching session.

Teaching practice requirements

There is no requirement to undertake teaching practice other than as micro teaching for assessment purposes.

Where next?

PTLLS is a 6 credit qualification at Level 4 that is the first step to a full teacher qualification (24 credit CTLLS or 120 credit DTLLS) with QTLS.
