To provide essential professional and academic skills to prepare students for study at MSc level at the University of Greenwich.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate familiarity with relevant University and Faculty online systems and TurnItIn and ability to communicate effectively via email, forums, video and other online systems.
2. Demonstrate ability to manage the organization of on-line files and emails and to format and reference documents in an academic context.
3. Demonstrate facility with office software to produce a professional report from a range of inputs.

Indicative content

Introduction to University and Faculty systems. Use of office software in a professional context. Good practice in managing own learning. Good practice in referencing and formatting documents. Use of TurnItIn to help with referencing. Use of Panopto (or equivalent) to produce a video screencast.

Teaching and learning activity

There is an introductory lesson in week 1, and online learning material is made available, with weekly formative tasks. Assessment can be completed at the end of week 6. There is online tutorial support.


Individual Coursework - Pass/Fail 100% weighting.
Learning Outcomes 1, 2 & 3.
Outline Details - A formal report containing the revised (if necessary) content from the weekly uploads and a supporting ZIP file.

Students are required to pass all elements of summative assessment in order to pass the course.

Formative Assessment - Students will be given 4 weekly practical tasks covering Learning Objectives 1 and 2 with a requirement to upload a report each week as evidence. Prompt feedback will be provided.
