These are the questions you ask us most often.

I am having problems logging into the system?

Things to try:

  1. Double check that you have typed in the Username and password correctly.
  2. Make sure that caps lock is switched off.
  3. Visit the lab service desk or contact us for help.

Please note: The Student Centre can place holds on your computing account. If all else fails, check that they have not done so.

I have forgotten my password, how can I log in?

Visit the lab service desk in person. In order to help with forgotten passwords the lab staff will need to confirm your identity. Be prepared to show them your Greenwich Gateway Card, driving licence or a credit card.

Where can I find my password?

Unless you have changed it, your network password is the one you used when you logged in to the PortalOpens in a new window to register online.

If you are not sure what your password is you can present your Greenwich Gateway Card to one of the computer lab staff who will look-up your login details on the system.

Please note: For security reasons, staff can not give out passwords over the telephone.

How can I change my password?

To change your network password:

  1. Log in to the PortalOpens in a new window.
  2. Click on the "Password Manager" link located towards the top of your Portal screen.
  3. Enter your current username and password again to access the password manager pages.
  4. If you have previously done so, you will need to choose two security questions and answers.
  5. Click on the "Change Password" link to the left of the window and follow the instructions.
  6. You may now log out or continue using the Portal.

Where can I find my Username?

You can find your Username on your Greenwich Gateway Card or by asking the lab staff to look it up for you.

What is my email address?

Your email address consists of your Username followed by

How do I access my email from outside the university?

You can access your email from anywhere with internet access.

  1. Log into the portal at in a new window

Where should I save my work?

You should always save your work in your home area. This will be the G:\ drive. You can access this drive from any university PC as long as you are logged into the network. The G:\ drive will be labeled with your Username to make it easy to locate.

Always make a backup copy of your important files. We suggest using a USB storage device.
