Launch of the university's LGBT Staff Network

Date & Time: September 2013 at 5.00pm.

With brief introductions from our Senior Straight Sponsor - Linda Burke - and Senior LGBT Champion - Christopher Hallas - this was an opportunity to find out how, together, we can create an inclusive and supportive environment for all LGBT staff, and help create a university that proudly supports equality and diversity.

We also heard from Dr Chris Brown (Department of Communication & Creative Arts), whose screenplay Knock-Out (about a boxer's fight against homophobia) has won two awards: Best Screenplay at the London Independent Film Festival, and the Cordelia Award for Best UK Script at the BlueCat screenplay competition.

This event was open to all staff, not just the university's LGBT community, as everyone has a role to play to make the university more LGBT-friendly.

Medway Networking Lunch

Date & Time: 26 February 2014, 12.00-2.00pm

The University of Greenwich, University of Kent, and Canterbury Christ Church organised a networking lunch for all LGBT staff based at the Medway campus. This was an opportunity to meet up with colleagues and new acquaintances for a general chat, networking, and to catch-up on the various Networks' ongoing activities.

LGBT Staff Network Social

Date & time: 5 November 2014 at 5.00 pm

The Staff LGBT Network invited all staff to a social gathering with a purpose. This social event aimed to find out what staff wanted the network to focus on for the following academic year.

Douze Points - Flying the Rainbow Flag at the Eurovision Song Contest

Date: 15 April 2015

A social, networking and learning event for Network members, supporters and friends from within the university and beyond, building on our popular 2014 event. We used the activity to raise awareness of the work of our network, to again highlight the work of London Friend and to promote the work of ILGA-Europe, developing understandings on the part of those attending of what life is like for LGBT people in the different countries of Europe.

University Stonewall Diversity Champion Symposium and Reception

Date: 8 July 2015

The Symposium was chaired by our Chief Operating Officer and covered the role of the university as a Stonewall Diversity Champion and our use of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) as a framework for initiating and implementing organisational developments. The event served to assist pursuit of equality objectives set out in our University Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, a key outcome being the development of a set of actions that will translate into organisational developments that will be measured as part of the WEI in future years.

The evening reception, opened by our Vice Chancellor, served as a networking event and as an opportunity to showcase some of our activities and achievements since the launch of the Staff LGBT network and to continue to build our growing network of connections beyond the university.
