Two Greenwich senior staff announced as REF panel members

The University of Greenwich is honoured that two of its senior staff have been appointed by REF (Research Excellence Framework) at the first stage of the REF 2021 exercise.

The University of Greenwich is honoured that two of its senior staff have been appointed by REF (Research Excellence Framework) at the first stage of the REF 2021 exercise.

Professor Karen Bryan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development) will sit on sub-panel 3: Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy for the criteria phase in 2018; and Professor Javier Bonet, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) will be part of the assessment phase commencing in 2020 for Engineering: sub-panel 12.

The selection process began in autumn 2017 and involved over 4,000 nominations for roles across four main panels and the 34 sub-panels. REF is funded by four UK bodies: Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland.

Professor Bryan said: "Having previously served as an additional panel member, I am very pleased to be joining the panel in the initial stages to contribute to shaping the assessment criteria."

Professor Javier Bonet said: "I look forward to participating in the assessment panel having previously been submitted to all research assessment exercise and led the submission of a large college of engineering for REF2014. It will be an excellent opportunity to experience the process first hand and contribute to ensure that it treats all submissions with the fairness and rigour they deserve."
