The Department for Education recently announced its multiple-year allocations for 2019-20 – this is the number of places for trainee teachers that universities can offer.
Allocations are normally made on a year-by-year basis, however, for the top performing providers, including the University of Greenwich, allocations have been confirmed for the next three years.
Michael Green, Head of Strategic Partnerships Education at the university, said: "This three year allocation is a testament to the excellent contribution that we and our partners make to support our trainee teachers. We work extremely closely with schools in the local region and beyond to have a transformative impact on the lives and outcomes of learners. It is pleasing to see this recognised by the Department for Education.
"This places us in the top 21 per cent of all providers of initial teacher education in the country. We pride ourselves on the quality of our provision and the excellent support provided by both our tutors and partners.
"We are committed to providing confident and competent teachers to the local region and beyond and this three year allocation is an endorsement of the quality of our trainees."
To identify the top performing providers, the Department for Education draws upon a number of important performance indicators, including the quality of training as recognised by Ofsted, the provider's performance in recruiting trainee teachers, and the quality of outcomes as recognised by the number of trainees who then go onto teach.
Other top providers identified include University of Cambridge, King's College London, the University of Birmingham and University College London.

The University of Greenwich provides initial teacher education across the early years, primary, secondary and Further Education and Skills sectors. Located at the university's Avery Hill Campus, the university has been training teachers for over a century.
