Emilio Costales MSc, BA

Lecturer

Emilio undertook and has recently submitted his PhD Thesis in Business and Management at Royal Holloway, University of London. Prior to that he received his MSc in Sustainable Development from Royal Holloway. Before moving to the UK, he taught financial literacy in New York City while completing his BA in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University. Currently, his research focuses on Social Entrepreneurship and Social Systems dynamics in the Smart City. His work has been presented in well recognised international conferences, such as the Academy of Management.

Research / Scholarly interests

Emilio’s research interest sits at the intersection of Social Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation and Urban Development, with a particular emphasis on the spatial dimension of social entrepreneurship. Therefore, his research incorporates Systems theory, Sociomateriality, and the ethics based framework of Ordonomics to examine Business’ role in systems change. Methodologically, his expertise is in practice and process tracing, diary studies, Netnography, and qualitative coding.
