Karen Aldridge qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989. She trained with Kingston Smith in London following completion of a foundation in accountancy at Bristol Polytechnic (now the University of the West of England). After a year in industry as a financial accountant for a data services company, she worked for Moores Rowland, Chartered Accountants, as an assistant manager in the audit department.

Over the last 20 years, Karen has combined working part-time as an academic with working in practice. This has included being ACCA Course Director at Bromley College of Further and Higher Education and preparing accounts for small and medium-sized businesses in a sole practitioner accountancy practice.

From August 2014 Karen has been a full-time member of staff at the University.

  • International Coordinator and Link Tutor, Accounting & Finance Department (International Partners in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore)
  • Course Leader for Introduction to Financial Accounting, and Administration, Accounting and Taxation for Small Entities
  • Lecturer on Financial Accounting, Taxation, Small Entities, including Charities, and Auditing
  • Personal tutor on undergraduate programmes
  • Karen has an MSc in Accounting with Finance from London South Bank University
  • Her research interest is the performance and governance of charities.
