Sharon joined the university in September 2020 and teaches part-time on the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy course which is run jointly with Canterbury Christchurch University. Sharon qualified as a Speech & Language Therapist in 2004 and worked extensively in the NHS before moving into independent practice. 

Sharon's clinical roles have included working in critical care, acute hospital wards, in-patient rehabilitation units and community settings with adults who have swallowing or communication difficulties as a result of neurological conditions. 

Sharon has also worked extensively with adults who have voice disorders. Her main interest is in communication difficulties that arise as a result of stroke or traumatic brain injury and she has taught undergraduate and post graduate speech and language therapists in this field for many years. Sharon has also worked as a visiting lecturer in voice disorders and as a visiting tutor for student placements. Sharon's PhD research was in global aphasia, a severe communication impairment that can arise as a result of stroke and this is her area of ongoing research.
